That first Houston Startup Weekend was the 4th event held of the original Startup Weekends. I was enesprt at the first ever Startup Weekend in Boulder, and then I was lucky enough to fly to Toronto with Hyde & Scharf to help organize the 2nd event. One thing I can say is that no Startup Weekend is ever the same. Every community brings their own personality and culture to the events. But that first event here in Houston was remarkable because of the people. I'd love to say I organized the event but I just helped to organize. The real credit goes to Andrew Hyde & Gwen Bell who flew in and made order out of chaos. Credit also goes to Josh Tabin and Marc Nathan for helping to secure sponsors and drive registrations. Mad kudos to Greg Thibodeaux and Mary Frances for providing the venue, and to Matthew Wettergreen & Monica Danna for chronicling our adventure.I think this is really just a question of semantics. Was that first event Official? Yes. Was it the same as this next event. No. Startup Weekend has changed hands. The event has changed format. This event will be different. Not better or worse but different. And different can be good.

[...] Ignite Houston with Ian Overton. Mass extinctions happen roughly every 62 million years. Yet every ecosystem that emerges is qualitatively superior to the one which came before. What does this mean for the way we organize our economy, and choose our political leaders? [...]

Brian was a BRILLIANT emcee. I could tell he'd spent some time preparing. He was entertaining, and authentic, and took care introducing each speaker. Wonderful!
